The program covers a wide range of financial fields providing basic to applied courses that can be selected depending on each student’s purpose. Students who are concerned about a lack of mathematical or statistical background can prepare themselves in a relatively short period of time by taking introductory courses.
Both basic and advanced courses are organized in a balanced manner, with an equal distribution of courses focusing on theory and courses focusing on professional practice, which is one of the major characteristics of this program. Students develop the skills to systemize their own thinking, which will be needed for future business leaders, and learn firsthand about knowledge and professional practice at the forefront.
In this step, students gain an understanding of the knowledge base common to three diverse, modern financial areas:
Courses are provided to strengthen basic skills, depending on each student’s requirements. Preparatory courses such as statistics, accounting, economics, corporate finance, computation, and analytical tools are available. These courses not only lay the foundations for more advanced studies later in the program, but also guide students through the initial stages of financial thinking.
Students can select courses based on their own issues, interests, or purposes. Every course places emphasis on practical implications or results. Many classes also invite front-line corporate managers or professionals as guest speakers.
TAKING SUBJECTS IN OTHER COURSES
Courses such as expert courses for business law or lectures on IP strategy?a program jointly run with Tokyo Institute of Technology?can also be selected up to a maximum of 8 credits.
All students participate in small-group seminars throughout the program (for two years at least).
In seminars, students select practical issues in their business that they are interested in exploring more deeply. They employ all the knowledge and expertise they have acquired to understand and analyze these issues. This analysis is used toward preparation of a master's thesis (dissertation for specialist).
Although the master's thesis itself is a rewarding project, its preparation also provides a precious opportunity to discover an area of specialization for one’s career and to systemize your workflow.
